One of our customers, a specialist in waste treatment and recycling organic household wastehas chosen Archimedys™ for the replacement of a steel conveyor screw. The customer turned to the modular Archimedes screw to improve the service life of a conveyor that was suffering from abnormal wear, noise and high maintenance costs.

Problems associated with steel screws fade away

In this type of conveyor, the intermediate bearings cannot be fitted to a steel screw. This is because the screw rests on the trough bottom, equipped with support shoes.

Wear and tear abrasion of the screw and trough due to their simple friction constituted the main problem to be solved. The aggravating factor was the product to be which sometimes included sand, glass and water.

Archimedys™, requiring no intermediate bearings, provided a simple solution to all these problems. The site's maintenance teams assembled the screw at the foot of the conveyor without any handling equipment. The screw to be replaced had a diameter of 300 mm (12") and was three meters (10") long. The plant's maintenance team took charge of building the Archimedys™ screw and replacing it on site. No modifications to the conveyor were required.

Improved maintenance

In the event of major incidents, only damaged modules are replaced. The entire screw is no longer replaced. Maintenance operations are quick and easy. Downtime and maintenance costs are reduced.
